This painting "The Church at Auvers" was done in 1890 by Vincent Van Gogh. It was painted during his 2 month stay at Auvers in Paris. Auvers was a place where he would get better and free from his alcohol addiction. During his short stay he was able to create over 80 paintings in a new healthy state of mind. He died shortly after in the year of 1890. It is said that the church looks gloomy because it may have been Van Gogh's feelings he had about failed studies as a preacher and missionary.
