This piece was done by Mary Cassatt in 1914. She titled her piece "Mother and Child." She used pastel on wove paper, mounted on canvas. I like how Cassatt used many senses of light and dark within her and the child. I chose this piece because i realized that many of Cassatt's work is portrayed of her and a child, which coming from a family of nine children means a lot to me. The way they are holding each other so tight, leads us to view that they have a very close, strong, and caring relationship. Within any child's life they have the urge to search for comfort and security from their family, which is portrayed to the viewers when they see this piece.
