This piece by Edgar Degas was done with oil on canvas in 1879. He is considered one of the founders of Impressionism and he was famous for painting many series of ballet dancers and horses, because he was fond of the human form. The dimensions of this painting are 46 x 30-1/2 inches. The subject is a famous aerialist named La La performing her trademark stunt of hanging by her teeth at the end of the rope. I chose this piece because I love how he successfully"captures the breathless moment" from the view of the crowd as they look up and see her dangling above them.
