lady with bird

This paint was made by Karl Bang. He paints women. these picture contains a lot of color. Which give the picture life. Also its very detail. This picture contains small details that make it work. The woman looks really real, very tropical.
For my blog this week I went with a symmetrical painting by Sergeev Vladimir. It was a impression space drawing. As I googled different symmetrical paintings and drawings this one really caught my eye. You can clearly see the symmetry in this drawing I thought it was a good example and a well done painting.

asymmetrical balance

this is an a symmetrical drawing. as you can see there is more weight in the drawing on one side which makes it a symmetrical.

Thomas Kinkade

After attending UC Berkeley and working as an artist in the film industry, Thomas Kinkade began publishing his images so that he could share his passion for beauty and art. Since that day over 25 years ago, Kinkade has painted over 1,000 masterworks covering topics that include, cabin and nature scenes, beautiful gardens, classic cottages, sports, inspirational content, lighthouses and powerful seascapes, impressionists, and classic Americana. Hidden in his paintings are messages that speak to Thom's inspiration for each image. Whether including the initials of family members, hiding Disney characters, or imbedding hearts for special occasions and loved ones, each image contain treasures that add to their mystique. http://www.thomaskinkade.com/magi/servlet/com.asucon.ebiz.biography.web.tk.BiographyServlet

Cello Man

I found this drawing of a man and a cello on google images. It is an untitled drawing by Melanie Guy and its drawn using charcoal. I liked this drawing because the cello is drawn very similar to the one were drawing in class. The detail in the drawing is very different it is not very sharp, and you can't really make out his hand and bow because it is drawn as if the man is in motion and playing the instrument. The entire drawing is still except for the hand and bow in motion.

Cello

I got this picture off a website auction and it is acrylic paint on paper. The main reason I chose this was because of our class assignment. I really love the detail in the photo and realism it depicts of a real cello. It looks like a legit cello and athe detail from the body of it to the strings is just flawless. Also I think it goes good with the background and the notepad behind it.

"Two Women lll " By Willem De Kooning

This piece of art was done by Willem De Kooning in 1952. He called this piece, "Two Women lll " He created it using pastel, charcoal, and graphite pencils on paper. Kooning's artwork is now found in the Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College, Ohio. I chose this piece because in our last class, we began to see artist's work and deciding if they were symmetrical, asymmetrical or radial, in which this piece portrays. Kooning's "Two Women lll "is found to be symmetrical. I first found this piece in our book but once i looked it up online i found it in color which i thought it was fairly more interesting to see the use of color to these women as well. I like how he drew two women, one on each side of the page to portray his use of balance. The woman on the left allows us to see more of her face figure where compared to the woman on the right, you seem to see more of her body figure, since her face is partially covered by her arm. I think this artist did a great job on depicting 2 women, having different views which gives you a thought to think if it was really two seperate women, or if it was the same woman portraying different poses.

Olive Trees

This painting was done by Vincent van Gogh in 1889. It is oil on linen, 29" x 36.5". I like how van gogh used lines through out this painting, and how he used lines circling the sun to show rays from the sun.

Michael McNicholas
This oil painting was painted by Raphael. Raphael was one of the greatest High Renaissance artist, along with Da Vinci and Michealangelo. This is a perspective type painting. The two men in the middle are the vanishing points. It looks like Raphael added depth to his painting. I liked this painting for all the detail that he added. in the strctures and the people actually painting them in toga.

Starry Night

Starry Night, Vincent Van Gogh, 1889. This painting is an example of radial balance. The painting center starts at the swirl in the sky and expands from there. I think this painting because of the colors used and the way Van Gogh made the painting look like it had texture. I also like the interpretation of the painting. To me it looks fairytale like because of the sky.

Vortex

"Vortex" by Steve DiBenedetto is a piece of work which utilizes colored pencil on paper. He depicts his images in a chaotic way and utilizes radial symmetry. After viewing his "Deliverance" piece in the text, I was prompted to explore his other pieces. Often times he uses images which have no relation to each other but rather posses their own meaning within the portrait.

Starry Night Over the Rhone

This painting "Starry Night Over the Rhone" was done by Vincent Van Gogh in Arles, France. The Rhone River in the South of France had only been a few minutes from a house Van Gogh rented in September 1888. The media is oil on canvas. This is a continuation of the piece "Starry Night" except this one has has a couple in the foreground.
I found this picture on my blog on Tumblr. I chose this drawing because it has a lot of detail. Her hair resembles the rain and I think the guy that is under umbrella is resembling some what of a dark cloud above him.

Pastel Drawing of Kurkcudbright Harbour

This is a pastel drawing done by an unnamed artist. The drawing is done with both hard and soft pastels. When reading about this drawing, it is believed that the artist did this based on observation from a bridge and used the hard pastels first and then went over it with soft pastels.

The reason why I picked this drawing is because I really liked the colors and the shading that was used within the drawing. Another reason why I picked it is because we are using pastels and drawing based on observation of the Cello. This drawing shows the many ways that pastels can be shaded together to get a really nice effect of what is being observed.

Mexican News

Mexican News by Richard Caton Woodville was made in the 19th century. this print of art reflected America during the 19th century. in the picture, businessman reads aloud the newly-arrived newspaper, which the news was Mexico was getting their constitution unified. then the united states annex Texas and acquired California and Oregon, which made Mexico angry and ready for a battle. i like it because it shows expression and shade.

Chuck Close Collage

This is a self portrait by Chuck Close made in 2008. The media used in this piece is handmade paper on canvas. The artist uses segments of colored paper to recreate a portrait of himslef. The artists use of color and technique is really extraordinary as he makes the portrait come to life by simply using colored paper. The artist uses a lot of warm colors to create the face and compliments it with cool colors to distinguish facial properties ie. nose, eye, beard etc.. I find the artists technique very interesting.

Cut paper on wall with overhead projection, part of her collection called My Complement, My Enemy, My Oppressor, My Love, which the exhibit traveled from France, New York, California and Texas. We saw one of her works in class as an example of positive and negative space. She is known for her large black and white silhouettes that deal with issues regarding racism, slavery, sex and liberation. In this case it looks like part of the Civil War with burning flames behind them, you can also see flags waving as well.

La Scapigliata

This is a portrait done by Da Vinci through the use of oil on canvas in 1508. It is on a 27x21cm panel. I felt this image was different than others of da Vinci because it didn't depict an entire female body. What also was unique about this was that the backround looks like it is a scripture. The image shows the use of value in her facial features like her lip, under her neck, her nose and her eyes.

Pedro Berruguete

This is a self-portrait of the Spanish Renaissance artist Pedro Berruguete (c. 1450-1504). It was painted sometime during his lifetime, and it is an oil on canvas painting.

I love to touch on subjects that are little known in art, and while Renaissance art is well-known (especially that from Italy), Spain itself is not all that famous for producing artists other than some titans like Picasso and Dali.

Berruguete is an artist I had never heard of, so I looked up Spanish Renaissance art and came up with this guy. For someone as obscure as Berruguete, he seems to be a fine painter judging by his self-portrait.

Harvest

This painting is titled Harvest- The Plain of La Crau by Vincent van Gogh. The painting was made in 1888. I found this picture in the textbook, but in there it was a black and white drawing done with reed pen. I think I like it better being in full color. One reason for this is that in the color version the mountains in the background are more clear and stand out. I also think that using color makes grasses in the foreground look better in comparison to the drawn version. He also had good use of warm and cool colors to seperate the foreground and background.

Head of Catherine Lampert VI

This drawing was done by the artist Frank Auerbach in the year of 1931. The media is charcoal and chalk on paper. I found it interesting because Auerbach drew, rubbed the drawing off, wiped it out, and then layered it with charcoal to create the volume for the head. The face planes are mostly erased to bring out the light gray background.

The Eye

Here is a self portrait that an amateur artist put together using colored pencils. When I was searching the internet to get some ideas on what route to go when doing my portrait this one stuck out to me, mostly because she too used colored pencils. It is really remarkable how many different colors you must use when drawing the human eye and flesh as well. The artist is unknown, but in my opinion, very talented.

Hatteras Lighthouse

Charcoal and graphite drawing of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse ( a landmark of the Outer Banks in North Carolina) setting at it’s original location in Buxton, North Carolina of the Outer Banks. This Drawing was done by Debbie Adams with vine charcoal and a knead eraser. I chose this drawing because of the great use of light and dark in the sky and in the sand. She blended the charcoal very smoothly throughout the entire drawing.

Jenn's Window

This image is done by M.A. Murphy by charcoal on paper. It is on a 25" by 30" frame. This has won a Special Recognition Award from Upstream People Gallery in Omaha, Nebraska and Juror's Choice Award from United Creators Juried Show in New York City. What first captured me to this image was the intense eyes and the amount of detail in this one image. After trying to add details in our own drawings in class I realize how difficult this aspect is in art, however, Murphy makes it look so easy. The shading and the detail present in her face and in her hands makes this image so amazing. After looking at Murphy's gallery all of her images are done with great detail and capture a sense of realism.

Eye in Colored Pencil

This is a colored pencil drawing of a blue eye. I posted this because it relates to what we are doing in class and it is the exact drawing that i am attempting to do for my class project.

"crevasse" by Edgar Mueller

"Crevasse" is a painting painted on a sidewalk in Irland, painted by Edgar Mueller. Who is one of the world's most famous 3-d street painters. This painting of an ice crevasse, he is also known for his other works. Mueller was the first well know street artist to use the theory of metamorphose and use photoluminscent paint.

Line Drawing

This is a line drawing by John Singer Sargent and was made in 1921. It was made using charcoal on brown wove paper. The reason I chose this was because my villa drawing is a line drawing. I wanted to connect something we did in class to something I can blog about. I particularly like this photo because its very simple, of a man sitting down and the lines paint a nice picture .

"Bullfight: Death of the Toreador" By Pablo Picasso

This piece of artwork was done by Pablo Picasso in 1933. This painting is called the "Bullfight: Death of the Toreador." The colors within this painting depicts many details towards this bullfight. I chose this piece because i though it was an interesting use of color techniques. I also like that this painting was painted from a close view rather than a far away view as the audience in the crowd have. Having a closer view of the fight show more complex details. It helps show the direct hits and reactions of the fighters. Picasso uses a heavy sense of brush strokes in this painting to show the moment of the bullfighters death. The use of the grey tone on the horse leads us into barely even see that the horse is dying. This piece is very detailed and informing onto the viewers to see what exactly happened.

Miss La La at the Cirque Fernando

This piece by Edgar Degas was done with oil on canvas in 1879. He is considered one of the founders of Impressionism and he was famous for painting many series of ballet dancers and horses, because he was fond of the human form. The dimensions of this painting are 46 x 30-1/2 inches. The subject is a famous aerialist named La La performing her trademark stunt of hanging by her teeth at the end of the rope. I chose this piece because I love how he successfully"captures the breathless moment" from the view of the crowd as they look up and see her dangling above them.

Super Mario

After doing a bunch of works by Italian artists, I decided to use something in which an Italian is the subject rather than the artist.

This is Mario, a video game character from Nintendo who has a massive video game franchise shared with his brother Luigi. Mario is an Italian-American plumber from Brooklyn, and he often joins Luigi (also a plumber) on adventures in the Mushroom Kingdom.

This work of art looks like an ink and paint drawing on paper. Mario was created by Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto in 1981. I like this work of art because I love playing Super Mario Bros. games and this work in particular is from the artwork of Super Mario Bros. 3, my favorite video game of all time. I found this through Google images.

Oh Susanna...

Artemisia Gentileschi was the daughter of Orazio Gentilesch, a baroque painter from Rome. She became the first female member of the Academy of Design in Florence.

I choose this painting because it seems like so much of the art, no matter what century, portrayed naked women....all the time! I don't understand why the men are not painted naked half as much as the women. Or maybe they are and I'm just ill in formed.
But the story behind this piece of art is a bit saddening. Artemisia was denied entry into an all male art academic school so her father hired a tutor for her. But she was raped, tortured, publicly humiliated and sent to jail for one year. Susanna and the Elders is about a Biblical story of a women who was sexually harassed by the village elders.

She also painted Judith beheading Holofernes which many say was her sort of revenge. she is best known for mastering light and dark. Now that i understand the story behind Susanna and the Elders I can appreciate her artwork more.

Broken Column

This drawing by Frida Colon is explanatory. i remember watching a movie about her and she was in a bad accident and was told she couldn't walk before. if im not mistaken, that is the reason the rod is in her back. Frida expresses herself through her drawings and i find that very unique because she has her own technique.
