Moelle: The Core

This is Jan Reaves, "Moelle: The Core", it is and oil on canvas done in 2006. It reminds me of the last sketch in the book that we did, with her picture "Form". I like how she deconstructs her paintings, they are more abstract, and they have a lot more depth.

Le Gourmet

Le Gourmet, 1901, Pablo Picasso, oil on canvas. I found this painting because I was searching through Picasso's works of art. I wanted to research Picasso because I was unsure of what his work looked like and the history behind the name. While I was searching his paintings I noticed that all of the people in his paintings tend to have very pointy noses and faces. I like this panting because it is different. It is not a close up like many of his other works. I also like the colors and the details. It is a very cool painting with a hint of a warm yellow light from the left side of the painting.

This is a sketch by Daniel Peci. He is a artist who posts his works on his blog. This is a piece that I came across while searching charcoal drawings in google. This picture was one that really caught my eye. Some thing about the unknown in the picture really interests me. The fact that your not sure what the little girl is looking at really grabbed my attention. This really reminded me of our charcoal assignment, and the presence of light and dark.

Michael Jordan

This from a collection of paintings from Carlo Beninati. This one is a print. Its a 30" x 40" on canvas. What I liked about this man's collection was that he was inspired by Michael Jordan's performance that it encouraged him to continue painting. He decided to have a collection of Michael Jordan paintings which he called "Thanks For the Memories" which he said was an era of great basketball and he wanted to show Michael Jordan his appreciation for his basketball.

Dora Maar With Cat

This piece is called "Dora Maar With Cat" by Pablo Picasso. Painted in 1941 by Picasso. The media used in this piece are oil on canvas. This is a painting of Pablo Picasso's ex-girlfriend. The artist uses vivid colors to depict the woman's dress and neutral colors for the background. The artists use of cubism is very apparent in this piece, which is why i chose it. This piece sold for $95 million in 2006, making it one of the top ten most expensive paintings sold.

Purity

This painting titled Purity by Andrew Astroshenko seemed very live to me. The plain colors of the females attire against the shabby background accentuate the image of her. The painting is live, depicting fine details in the calf and back of the women. When I first came across the image the first words that came to mine were beauty, emotion and hardwork. I could sense that about the painting and I believe that is what the artist was trying to depict.

The Horseman of Death

This painting titled The Horseman of Death was created by Salvador Dali in 1935. I like this painting because of the combination of dark and light imagery. In the foreground there is a skeleton riding a partially decomposed horse which I consider to be a dark image. The background, which contains a rainbow and blue sky, is very light. The imbalance of themes in the painting is something that stands out to me and makes it interesting. Another thing that I learn when reseaching this painting is that Dali reused images from some of his prior paintings. The rainbow and clouds that are in the background were from his painting Le Spectre et al Fantome. The horseman is also a common subject that Dali includes in paintings.
