Broken Heart

This is a still life titled "Broken Heart" by Shawn Dell Joyce created using chalk pastel. I think it illustrates very well how various colors can be utilized to make the image pop, to make it more real. It shows blending especially in the Red roses- some orangey yellow and white can be seen. The background also draws focus to the main piece.

Eleven String Instruments

This is a picture titled Eleven String Instruments made by Andy Worhol before 1957. It was created using silkscreening. I chose this picture because it is similar to the last project we worked on with the Cello and I like other work by Worhol. I found this while searching for paintings of musical instruments. I like the way the color was used in the picture with each instrument being a different color. In that way it is different than our project because we created a instrument with many colors in it. Another thing I like about the drawing is that it has detail, including the strings, the bridge and the stands.

Cello Drawing

This is the first time I've done an actual drawing here at the blog, so I thought I'd give this a shot. It is a drawing of a cello. I don't know the artist personally, so I'd say it is Anonymous. This is related to what we've been doing in class, and it also caught my eye.

Lilly Pod Claude Monet

This painting was done by a famous painter known as Claude Monet. This painting shows that it was done with someone who has a lot of artistic ability because Monet created this painting in a sense where it looks realistic. I chose this picture because i thought it was an interesting set point that Monet decided to paint. In his painting her also worked towards getting the different values within the piece as well instead of having the whole painting set on one value. I also like the use of color within his piece. He uses a sense of light and dark into all his colors to show the area in which the light is reflecting off from. I like how he portrayed the water as well because he also painted in some of the flowers into his piece as if they fell into the water off of the trees. Claude Monet's piece is a successful piece and can sure catch many elements of art compared to other paintings.

This is an oil on canvas done by Edgar Degas in 1874 called The Dance Class. I tried to search for a famous chalk pastel drawing but instead I got a painting done by one of the most famous chalk pastel artists, Edgar Degas. There's also a small cello in the background in the painting to so in a way it incorporates two things that we are doing in class right now. But otherwise I chose it because it seems so busy and detailed and it amazes me how artists are able to execute their work (since I'm having difficulty with just the cello details)

Guernica

This piece of art was done by Pablo Picasso. Picasso created this piece because he was commissioned by the Spanish Republican government to create a large mural for the Spanish display at the Paris International Exposition at the 1937 World's Fair in Paris.

The painting was created in response to the bombing of Guernica, Basque Country, by German and Italian warplanes at the behest of the Spanish Nationalist forces on April 26, 1937 during the spanish Civil War.

Whistler's Mother

This is an oil on canvas done by James McNeill Whistler in 1871. The painting is of his mother who was supposed to be standing up, but due to the extended period of time she had to sit down. This painting reminds me of the value scale project we did. It is mainly composed of white, gray and black. Whistler described this painting as an "arrangment" of color. He painted his mothers face so delicately while you look at the bolder shapes of her dress, the curtain, and the wall.
